Assignment 2.2: Self-Critique

Zombie soldier the hair cards are not transparent.  The skin tone on the arms to the hands are off the normals on the armor need to be adjusted on the edges.  The texture needs to show wht kind of metal it is.  It appears to be a blob of colors.  This is a very basic pose that shows no type of character at all.

There are some issues with the normals. The normal map appears very low res.  The model can be smoother.

Showing a wire frame to show the flow of the polygons for this model can help to give a better idea of how the model is modeled.

Weird angle and kind of hard to see what everything is. Changing the angel will help.  There are also some normal issues on the tray.  For the third image showing the wire frame for the low poly here can help also applying the textures and showing them here as well.

There need to be a textures on the objects as well and a proper render setup.

The normals detail on the shirt is really high and needs to be toned down.
For the can maybe displaying the wire frame can help.

The light switch has some stretching on the top edge.  the buttons can be a bit more rounded with a lot more dirt and grime on it.  the edges are two soft.

There are some edge normal issues that need to be fixed. The handle looks like it’s a separate piece and needs to feel like it is attached.  There is also some texture stretching on the handle.

There needs to be a render of the car here this is good for wip but not for a portfolio piece. The second images does not show off the model of the car.

There needs to be a render of the chair itself so that we can see the chair.  There is no much to go off of with the current image.
There are some wired normal issues on the armor here.  Some of it is hard and some of it is soft.  I don’t get a real sense of the type of material the armor is.  Some areas lack a normal map.  The  details need to be worked on a bit for this model.

Looks like wet cement. The image is low res so you can’t see the details.  I think toning down the specular map will help.
The four arms look like they may be too small there is also a noticeable seam on the pelves.

The colors are too dark you can’t see any of the details maybe toing the colors down a bit will help.  The mid section of the character appears to be off and needs to be rotated.  The right foot needs to be adjusted  and lower leg need to be thicker.

The legs or more so the feet of the character need to be adjusted.  I would like to see additional view of the character to make this more of a completed concept page for the character(s).
The lines on this character need to be a bit smoother.  The head is too small.  Also the hands need to be adjusted.  I character can also use shadows to show a sense of form. Also a shadow on the ground to establish a ground plan.  The same can be said for the second character the adding some shadows for form. The line on the chest looks weird and should curve in the opposite direction. The right hand is a bit weird and needs to be adjusted.  The right foot of the character is in a weird position.

This can be  more of an completed concept once again adding more images to this can help.  Also fleshing out some of the details a bit more  in some areas.

The leat two 1.This concept need to be fleshed out more with cleaner artwork.

2.This one has a lot of anatomy issues.  The arms need to be adjusted the right shoulder is too small.  The chest is too large, the pelves can be adjusted moved up a bit.  The right leg from the the knee down is too small.  The left leg looks disjointed and out of place.

  1. Your critiques are a little bit on the negative side for the most part. You may want to try balancing them out by describing some of your successes. This not only helps to see where you have improved, but also helps boost confidence in the next piece.
Your creature isn't bad, you just need to maybe define a few more details in the arms and lower the blood texture so that it isn't so dark and overpowered. Most of your 3D work needs to be lightened up and you need to check the levels of your textures. Your textures appear too dark. The shirt has some nice texture work, but it could use more subtlety in the folds. The soda can and cars look great but, like you said, they need work on the presentation. The character needs some sharper details to really make the armor seem hard edged and pop. At the moment, it appears a bit muddy. The concrete blocks need to have a little less noise. Always keep some reference handy when trying to recreate something that already exist. Your illustrations are great. They could use some more color variation, but they don't have to be realistically rendered. I hope this helps. Keep up the good work!
